$600.00

Rare, authentic Japanese hand-cast iron Holstein Cow Lantern.
This beautiful figural piece features an intricate, pierced open-work body designed to hold a candle or tea light, casting a wonderful patterned glow when lit. It is beautifully hand-painted in a classic black and white Holstein pattern, making it a cross-over collectible for enthusiasts of Asian garden antiques, fine cast iron, and farmhouse/cattle decor. The piece is classified as an antique / vintage item dating back to the Mid-20th Century, specifically from the early Showa period (roughly dating between the 1930s and 1950s). Based on historical dealer documentation and matching archival records for this specific casting design, the country of origin is Japan. These distinctively stylized, pierced-body animal lanterns are traditional Japanese garden ornaments—often referred to generally as toro or cast-iron hibachi variations—and were handcrafted by Japanese artisans specializing in heavy ironwork castings.
Dimensions: 17.5" long
Condition: In good vintage/antique condition. The cast iron structure is completely solid with no cracks or structural damage. The original two-part seam assembly is intact with sturdy underside hardware. The hand-painted finish shows patina with some paint wear, light chipping on high points (like the tail and hooves), and surface oxidation along the top seam and interior—all consistent with age and displaying character. Please review all high-resolution photos for a precise look at the condition.
Shipping: Will be packed with care using heavy-duty wrapping to protect the weight and finish of the cast iron. Shipping includes tracking and insurance. Related Items:
