Vtg. 1970’s Garrett Wade Natural White Hard Arkansas Stone, 8 x 2 1/2 Used 5 Times, Cedar Box
I am the original owner of this stone. I bought it sometime around the 70’s. This is very significant since it was in those early years of the company that their products were most highly regarded (it appears the company was sold in 2023). Because of the extremely light use it will be a long time before any lapping would be necessary. I was surprised that it is fixed in the box with some kind of adhesive that resembles rubber cement (and may be that).
It’s partially lifting from the adhesive and there is no reason why the stone couldn’t some day be reversed. This stone would rate “fine to very fine” but I don’t have the numerical rating of it at my fingertips.
This is the first of several sharpening stones (natural and synthetic) that I will be posting on this platform.
